8th December 2011

Anniversary Regatta
Firstly, the 80th Anniversary Regatta is being held at the Sailing Club on Sunday 15th January. This is a major event in the Club’s history and we look forward to celebrating in style. All Members and their guests are invited to come for the day.

We have organised a team-relay-pursuit race, with the handovers on the beach – to involve all comers. You are invited to enter a team of three boats of any type, with staggered starts. Optimists have a clear time advantage, so cadets are encouraged. The Commodore’s Prize Cup and many other goodies in store, including Anniversary shirts and glasses.

This will be followed by a special barbeque by Julie Erskine and a fabulous auction for prizes such as a Rooster Laser Sail, the Original artwork of the attached flyer and a watercolour of the Club by Roy Pickering. Proceeds to Club funds, including the new rib that has been acquired.

Please RSVP to me with:
- The number of adults and children in your party (three course lunch 1,900 /- and 900/- respectively)
- Whether you want either to enter a team or join a team

Lotus Island
Members who have joined the Club since the mid 1990s may wonder why the Clubhouse is situated on an area called Lotus Island. On your next visit you will see why, as the Lake has risen, and we now have to take a boat from the farm to the Club. The causeway is no longer passable in a car. Sarah Higgins is working on parking arrangements on her side, so please be patient while a system is worked out. Also please phone Patrick when you are 15 mins from arriving on X or Y so that he can arrange a boat to be ready for you. Finally, we expect the animals, and particularly the hippos, to have less grazing, so be extra vigilant at dusk and after dark. The askaris are there to assist.

As ever, we look forward to seeing you on the water!

Kind regards,
Tom Morton
Commodore
