Adult Training - October

This is for members and non members. It is a beginner course in laser sailing. There will be 2 Nairobi sessions and 2 weekends at the club, the dates are on the calendar. You’ll be hearing more about this closer the time. If you know anybody who would be interested in learning to sail please let them know about it, and if they’d like more information look out for it on the web site or contact the new sailing secretary Nicolas Grainer.

Club Boats / Cadets

Hilary & Willie Atkins have very kindly donated "Donald Duck" to the yacht club for hire by the cadets - however her sail is rather ragged and I was wondering if anyone had an old but usable optimist sail that they would be willing to give / sell to the club for use with Donald Duck. I don't really want a new sail as this boat will be used to get the beginners started on the water.

Committee notices

There were some monkeys spotted near the club house a few weeks ago who came in when every one had left and messed things up a bit. If you are the last in the club house can you please close the door after you.

The Plug

With the lake being so low, the plug had now become an obstacle for your centerboards. It is marked, however there is a platform under the water, not only a peek, so be careful when sailing with in a few meters of the marker.

Concert at the Club on the 10th and 11th March

On both the 10th and the 11th March there will be a concert held on the club grounds organized by the Higgins. Both events won’t affect the clubs workings in anyway. The concerts will be held in the acacia trees at the bottom of the hill to the left of Moses house. The Parking will also be separated from the club car park. The concert on the 11th will finish late afternoon and won’t interfere with the NYC Social or the Discourse trophy.

Rescue Boats

In the Sailing Committee meetings and Main Committee meetings we have been discussing the use of the club rescue boats and have come to an agreement on the use of them for rescue and teaching on non event weekends. We have some strict guide lines for their use.

They can only be used for rescue or for teaching sailing.
Moses or Anthony has to drive the boat.
If a boat is used it will cost 1000/= per rescue or hour of use. Please sign one of the bar chits.

If you are going out for a sail and there are few people around, please let Anthony or Moses know that’s what you’re doing, so they can keep a check on you and in the event of any difficulties on the water they can come to your assistance.

Rescue boat driving and first aid course

It was a brilliant morning and every one who came learnt so much. Thank you very much to Sue Dixson for running the First Aid workshop, and Don White and Joachim Bebbington for running the rescue boat driving course. We were disappointed with the turn out of members; we only had 9 people come, after so many people asked me organize this.
