Easter Cadet Camp 2006
The NYC Cadet Training Committee is pleased to inform you that
there will be a year 2006 EASTER CADET CAMP. Although the object
of the camp will of course be to improve the sailing skills of the
participants, we wish to emphasize that there will be lots of fun
and games, both on and off the water!
• Conditions
All children who take part must have access to a boat for the
duration of the cadet camp. We will accept no more than 2 people
per laser and one person per optimist. If the optimist sailors
are very small we may accept 2 in a boat (please check with the
organizers first).
Age 8 to 15 years only.
• Costs:
The all-inclusive cost will be 7000/= per child, the break down
of this is below. An application form is attached and should be
completed and returned to Rowena Rudd, P.O. Box 14476, Nairobi,
00800, not later than 15th March 2006. Applications must be accompanied
by cash, or a cheque for the correct amount payable to NAIVASHA
YACHT CLUB. No participant will be accepted without payment in full
and without a signed indemnity form by parents or guardians.
Cost breakdown:
Trainers 3500/=
Food 1500/=
Tent hire 500/=
Prizes 500/=
NYC 500/=

Total cost per child 7000/=
• Dates and Times
The camp will start on Thursday 13th April at 4:00pm, and will close
Sunday 16th April 3:30 pm. Please be on time!
• Food and catering
Full meals will be provided from dinner on Thursday till Lunch on
Sunday. Squash / Juice will be provided as part of the catering
but participants must sign for any sodas. Non-members must pay for
these sodas at the end of the camp. Parents will be asked to help
by providing tea/cakes.
• Camp Mum
As well as the trainers and helpers, there will be one or two Camp
Mum’s, depending on numbers. Please ensure that you give us
full details of any child who has medical problems, allergies or
special food needs. Children should give any medication required
during the camp to the Camp Mum for safe keeping.
• Kit list (all labeled please):
Wetsuit (Desirable)
Life jacket
Hat / Cap - with string to tie to lifejacket
Dry shoes for on the island (thorn proof)
Sailing / Swimming shoes
Sleeping bag & Pillow
Anorak
3 Sailing shirts & shorts
Sun cream
Swimsuit
Tracksuit
Dry land T-shirts
Towel
Torch
Wash stuff
Underwear
Socks
Pyjamas
Mattresses can / will be provided by the club.
Please do not bring valuables to the camp such
as Walkman, cash and cameras. Be aware that things can be stolen
from tents and huts. The NYC cannot be held responsible for any
personal articles lost. Money brought for sodas can be deposited
with the camp mum.
• Sleeping arrangements
Like last year the children will sleep in large tents. Each tent
sleeps 10 children, and they will be split up according to age and
sex. Children are not allowed to bring their own tents to sleep
in, as we can keep much better control on them if they’re
all together. The camp Mum and other helpers will camp next to the
children.
• Arrival and Boat rigging
- On arrival, we would like the children first to be checked
in with the Camp Mum. Please give her any details on medical problems,
or medication requirements during the camp.
- Then we’ll need the parents to help sort out their child’s
bedding.
- Boat rigging should then take place, assisted by the parents.
Instructions should be given to the children as to where every
thing is kept.
This should take us up to 5:00pm, and at this time we would like
all the parents to leave, so we can get started.
• Collection
Parents must arrive at 3:30 on Sunday to help the children derigg
their boats. At 4:00 there will be prize giving and then tea.
If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask. And
if you are willing to help with catering, please let me know as
soon as possible.
I look forward to seeing you all there.
Kind regards
Rowena Rudd
